Why Akame ga Kill Isn’t Getting a Season 2

Akame Ga Kill is a pretty popular series from a few years ago, so will it ever get a second season?

Updated:

If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting for years for news about a second season of the action-packed series Akame ga Kill.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting Akame Ga Kill Season 2 anytime soon. But don’t worry, I’m here to break down the reasons behind this and maybe even offer a glimmer of hope.

First things first, let’s address the elephant in the room – the anime adaptation of Akame ga Kill was a bit of a mess.

While the source material, a manga series by Takahiro and Tetsuya Tashiro, was a hit, the anime by White Fox took quite a few liberties with the story.

By the end of the 24-episode run, it had diverged significantly from the manga’s plot.

Now, this isn’t an uncommon occurrence in the world of anime adaptations.

Sometimes, studios have to wrap things up early or take creative liberties to condense the story like in the case of Standing on a Million Lives Season. But in the case of Akame ga Kill, the changes were pretty drastic, and fans weren’t too happy about it.

Here’s the kicker – the anime’s ending was basically an original conclusion, cutting off a significant portion of the manga’s story. Check out the Akame Ga Kill manga in English if you want the full story.

Yeah, I know, it’s a bummer. But this is likely one of the biggest reasons why a second season hasn’t materialized yet.

You see, if a studio were to pick up Akame ga Kill for another season, they’d either have to ignore the anime’s ending entirely and essentially reboot the series, or try to find a way to continue from that controversial conclusion.

Neither of the options is particularly appealing, as both would likely ruffle some feathers in the fan base.

But let’s not lose hope just yet!

The manga did incredibly well, selling over 3.5 million copies by the time it ended in 2016. That’s no small feat, and it’s a clear indication of the series’ popularity. And as we all know, where there’s money to be made, there’s often a way.

So, while a second season of the anime might be a long shot at this point, there’s always the possibility of a full-on remake or a brand new adaptation that sticks closer to the source material like in the case of the Blue Exorcist anime.

Heck, with the recent surge in popularity of dark, gritty anime like Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, a faithful Akame ga Kill adaptation could be just what the doctor ordered.

Of course, these are just my thoughts based on the information we have.

The anime industry is a fickle beast, and anything can happen. But for now, my fellow Akame ga Kill fans, we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and our Night Raid bandanas at the ready.

And who knows, maybe if we all band together and make our voices heard, we could even start a movement to bring this beloved series back to our screens.

After all, stranger things have happened in the world of anime, right?

So, there you have it – My take on why Akame ga Kill isn’t getting a season 2, at least not anytime soon. But don’t let that get you down!

The world of anime is vast and ever-changing, and with a little luck (and maybe a whole lot of fan support), we could see our favorite assassins back in action before you know it.

Until then, keep watching, keep reading, and keep that love for anime burning bright!
