So far, Citrus Season 2 has not been officially announced, so there is no release date for the second season of this anime, but the question is if there will be a Citrus Season 2 and when it will be released.

Here’s everything we know so far regarding whether or not there will be a new season of Citrus and when it will be released.

The anime series Citrus, known as  シトラス in Japanese, is based on a popular yuri manga of the same name that was first published in 2013. The Citrus manga series is written and illustrated by Saburouta.

Citrus is a great romance yuri anime series with drama elements loved by people worldwide, which follows Yuzu Aihara who was forced to transfer to a new school. To a fashionable socialite like Yuzu, this is a new opportunity to fall in love and finally experience a first kiss.

The anime television series Citrus has only had one season so far directed by Takeo Takahashi and animated by Studio Passione. There is no word on whether the studio or director will be returning for Citrus s2.

The first 12-episode Citrus television anime series premiered in Japan in January 2018. Since then, this series has amassed a sizable fan base that is still waiting for Citrus Season 2 Episode 1 or some sort of sequel.

Will there be Citrus Season 2?

Citrus Season 2 will almost certainly never happen. There aren’t many anime adaptations of yuri series since they typically don’t sell well. Citrus, unfortunately, was not an exception because the anime adaptation was not profitable. That is why a second season will not be made.

The Citrus anime didn’t earn much money. Citrus Blu-Ray sales average around 1,100 copies, which is low, and there is practically almost no merchandising or figures created for this series. Also, the manga isn’t selling well either, so I don’t think there is any hope for Citrus season 2.

The sad thing is that there is plenty of material left to adapt for a new season. There are 10 volumes available in Japan, with only 4 having been adapted thus far. From what is now available, one to two additional seasons could be animated, but a sequel to this series has a near 0% probability of happening.

Citrus Season 2 Release Date

There is no official release date for Citrus Season 2 because a second season was never confirmed, canceled, or announced, so there is no countdown, and a release date is pretty doubtful to be ever announced because a second season will most likely never get announced.

I wanted to say that there is still some chance of this series getting a new season and a release date. However, after researching the sales and how well the sequel manga Citrus Plus is doing, I believe the chances are close to nil in 2021. Nothing about this series appears to be profitable enough for a second season.

We will update this post if there is any news or a release date for a new Citrus anime project on the Citrus official Twitter account. If you’ve given up hope that a new Citrus season will ever be released, you can start reading the manga from volume 5 since the anime covered volumes 1 to 4.
