Mieruko-Chan Season 2: The Chances and Challenges

Horror anime rarely get new seasons, so can we expect to see Mieruko-Chan Season 2 in the future?

Updated:

If you are like me, you are probably curious about Mieruko-chan Season 2.

I love this spooky and hilarious series, but unfortunately, there is no official confirmation or release date for the second season yet.

So, what are the chances of seeing more of Mieruko-chan? And when could it happen?

I did some research and found some interesting facts about the possibility of Mieruko-chan anime season 2 in 2024.

Let me tell you what I learned.

First of all, you may already know that Mieruko-chan is an anime series based on a popular manga by Tomoki Izumi.

It’s also known as 見える子ちゃん in Japan or The Girl Who Can See Them in some places. It’s a horror comedy with some school life elements, and it’s a lot of fun to watch.

The anime follows Miko Yotsuya, a teenage girl who has a very tired and gloomy look on her face.

That’s because she can see terrifying ghosts and spirits everywhere she goes, but she tries to act like she doesn’t. It’s not easy, especially when the ghosts try to mess with her and her friends.

Mieruko Chan Anime

Mieruko-chan anime has only one season so far, with 12 episodes.

It aired in Japan in October 2021 and since then, this series has amassed a sizable fan base that is still hoping Mieruko-chan will get a Season 2.

But Studio Passione, the studio that made it, has not announced any plans for a movie or an OVA, let alone a second season.

I have been following many anime sequels over the years. For example, I have written about: One Punch Man Season 3, and Overlord Season 5.

So I know a thing or two about how anime sequels are made and what factors influence them.

In my opinion, what’s fundamentally wrong with all the other articles about new anime seasons is that they never look at the sales or source material.

I will share with you my analysis and predictions, based on the facts about the source material and sales, and my personal opinions.

I’m confident that by the time you finish reading the article, you’ll have a clear understanding of what the chances of Season 2 are.

You’ll know if you should jump to the manga instead to continue the story and of course, I would love to hear your thoughts and comments as well.

Let’s get started!

Mieruko-chan’s Source Material Status For Season 2

Mieruko-chan Source Material For Season 2

For the Mieruko-chan anime, the source material is manga.

You might be curious about how many volumes of Mieruko-chan are out there. Well, let me tell you, there are 10 volumes of this awesome manga as of 2024.

Plus, maybe you’re worried that Mieruko-chan manga is over.

Well, it’s not. This manga has been published by Kadokawa Shoten since 2018 and it’s still going strong.

Tomoki Izumi, the genius behind Mieruko-chan, just released Volume 10 in Japan on February 22, 2024.

And what about Volume 11? Well, there is no official release date yet, but we can expect it to come out sometime in late 2024.

Now, if you are looking for where to resume Mieruko-chan after the first season, then you should check out Volume 4 of the manga. That’s where the anime left off.

Have a look at Mieruko-Chan Manga Volume 4 in English.

The first season covered volumes 1 to 3 of the manga The second season would probably follow volumes 4 to 6.

So, there is no shortage of material for a second season of Mieruko-chan or even more. The source material is not an issue.

Mieruko-chan’s Profitability And Sales Figures For Season 2

Mieruko-chans Profitability And Sales Figures

Unfortunately, the numbers are not very promising.

The anime’s first season was a flop, selling only 700 copies per disk. To get a sequel, a series usually needs to sell at least one to two thousand copies.

That’s very low for 2021 when disk sales still played a decent role in determining a new season’s chances.

The manga sales were also disappointing, barely reaching 100,000 copies even with the anime boost. Of course, this doesn’t count the digital sales.

As of 2023/5/23, the series had 2.300.000 copies in print, which sounds good, but not enough to compensate for the poor sales of the Blu-ray.

The merchandise situation is even worse.

There were no figurines made for this series, which is heartbreaking for the fans.

Also, there were less than 100 pieces of merchandise in total, and none of them were announced or released in the past 2 years.

It’s rare for a series to get neglected so quickly after its debut. So, money and profit is a big obstacle for Mieruko-chan s2.

Will Mieruko-chan Have A Season 2?

Willl Mieruko Chan Have A Season 2

Well, I have some bad news for you.

As of February 2024, there is no official confirmation of Mieruko-chan Season 2, and it’s very unlikely that it will ever happen.

Why is that? The answer is simple: money.

The first season of Mieruko-chan didn’t make enough money to justify a second season. You see, making a new season of anime is not cheap, and it only happens if the previous season was profitable enough.

Profit is the main factor that decides whether an anime series gets a new season or not. And sadly, Mieruko-chan didn’t do well in terms of profit.

The only thing that sells decently about this series is the manga, but that’s not enough to fund a new season.

The manga only releases 1 to 2 new volumes per year, which is not a lot of money. And the streaming revenue is probably not very high either.

The series has less than 70,000 followers on the Official Twitter account, so it’s not that popular. Also, not even 500,000 Members on MyAnimeList.

So you can see why the production committee doesn’t want to invest in a second season of Mieruko-chan.

It’s a shame, really, because I enjoyed the first season of Mieruko-chan. It was a unique and thrilling anime that kept me on the edge of my seat.

But I guess we’ll have to accept the reality that Mieruko-chan Season 2 will never happen.

Conclusion

That’s just my opinion, though. Maybe you have a different perspective on this topic. If you do, feel free to share it with me in the comments. I’d love to hear what you think.

And if you have any questions or suggestions for me, don’t hesitate to let me know.
