The Future Diary Season 2 is a highly anticipated sequel, fueled by the success and popularity of its first season in 2011. So, it’s no surprise that fans are wondering about the renewal of this anime for a second season.

Here is everything we know so far about the possibility of a new season of Mirai Nikki and when it could potentially be released.

The anime series “Future Diary” is based on a popular and successful psychological thriller manga of the same name, first published in 2006. The “Mirai Nikki” manga series is written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno.

“Future Diary” is an exceptional suspense horror anime series beloved by fans worldwide. It centers around the survival game of 12 participants, each equipped with a diary that can predict the future. The main protagonist is Yukiteru Amano, he has to team up with Yuno Gasai. A yandere girl obsesses over him.

The anime television series Future Diary has only had one season. It was directed by Naoto Hosoda, and animated by studio Asread.

There has been no announcement on whether the studio and director will return for a potential new season of Mirai Nikki.

The first 26-episode Future Diary television anime series premiered in Japan in October 2011. The OVA episode, titled Redial, came out in July 2013. So, can we expect The Future Diary Season 2 Episode 1 or some other continuation?

Will There Be A Season 2 Of The Future Diary Anime?

The Future Diary anime season 2 is yet to be officially announced. However, the likelihood of additional episodes appears low as there is currently no remaining material in the manga for adaptation. The last volume, Volume 12, was covered in Season 1, and the series has been completed since 2012.

Adding to that is the anime’s financial performance. Season 1 struggled with low Blu-ray sales figures, with fewer than 2,000 copies sold per disk. Kadokawa Shoten released the last manga volume, volume 12, in 2012. The only significant revenue source is streaming since there is also almost no merchandise or figmas either.

Still, the main issue stems from the source material. The first season of The Future Diary has essentially covered all the content available in the manga. The OVA served as an alternative ending from what I found, so unless the author writes a sequel manga series, a second season is not coming.

Where to start reading The Future Diary after the first season? The Future Diary anime covered all 12 volumes, but with some differences and omissions.

Also, the manga has a slightly better ending than the anime in my opinion. If you are curious, take a look at The Future Diary Manga in English.

The ending is not the only aspect where the manga outshines the anime. The manga includes scenes and details that the anime omits or alters. These include Akise’s visit to Yuno’s orphanage and the battle between Third and Ninth and more.

I highly recommend checking out The Future Diary Manga. Pick up the manga to read the original story and the additional details that the anime left out.

I will update this post with any news or a release date for a new Future Diary anime project from The Future Diary official website account or Crunchyroll.
